If you’re like so many other Michigan workers, you may be faced with choosing a new career. There are so many things to consider: personal interests, values, skills, education, job availability, wages, working conditions, how much schooling is needed, where to go for school. The list goes on and on.

OCC Career and Transfer Center: What’s in it for you?
OCC’s Career and Transfer Centers are conveniently located on each OCC campus. Counselors can help you discover more about yourself, what careers might be best for you, and what resources are available for you and your family. Make an appointment for service, here’s just some of the help they can offer you:
Learning about me
Career decision making is a process of becoming self-aware and matching your interests, values, skills with the right career. Through a variety of assessments available (some have a small fee) in the Career and Transfer Center and access to a counselor, you can build an understanding of your career wants and needs.
Matching me with the right career
Once you have a clear picture of those career wants and needs, you can begin the process of looking for a career that fits you. The Career and Transfer Center will connect you to an up-to-date resource, Career Cruising, which will give you the scoop on what jobs are really like. Then, OCC counselors can help you explore the options you identify.
How do I get there?
What schools have a program for your area of interest? How much education is needed? You can explore these questions, along with resources for educational choices for short-term training, degree and certificate options at the Career and Transfer Center.
What is the job outlook?
Are there really jobs out there? You can access information on current trends in the labor market, high growth occupations and emerging sector jobs in Southeast Michigan. You will also have access to the college’s online job bank and other hot employer websites.
What about my family?
Know that you’re not alone, and it’s not unusual to need guidance with finances, help managing stress, or assistance with any number of other difficult circumstances. OCC counselors can provide you with confidential referrals to community or college resources to help your family during this transition time.
