Career Programs
and Courses / Oakland Community College provides career programs and courses that allow students to become gainfully employed. Upon completion
of a career program, the student may receive an Associate Degree or a Certificate.
Employment Placement Services
Placement Services is an academic support unit designed to assist students in their search for part- and full-time employment. Services and assistance
are available in these major areas:
- Internship and Cooperative Education Program
This program allows a student to earn academic credit by combining classroom study with a paid or unpaid career-related work experience that bridges academic learning and the world of work. Application for the program should take place one semester prior to placement with the cooperative education coordinator. - Job Listing Service
Full- and part-time positions are listed by occupational areas and through a computerized network made available online at www.oaklandcc.edu/placement. - On-Campus Recruitment
On-campus recruiting provides current and graduating students the opportunity to interview with various employing organizations that visit OCC campuses during the year. - Student Employment Program
Students seeking part-time, on-campus employment while attending school have access to College-wide job listings through their home campus Placement Office. Workforce Development Services / Oakland Community College is a national leader in identifying and responding to the training and education needs of employers and the workforce.
Workforce Development Services include:
Customized training services ranging from basic employability skills to cutting-edge manufacturing, design and information technologies. (Because of
the customized services offered by Workforce Development Services, special fee structures may apply.)
- Responsive, flexible and innovative training delivery systems, including distance learning
- Over 2,200 online training courses through the ACT Center
- The most advanced training technologies and facilities in the country
- Management, leadership and quality training
- Adventure challenge/teambuilding
- Job profiles and skill assessments
- Licensed WorkKeys® Service Center offerings
- Specialized training for Information Technology (IT) at M-TECSM, including group, individual and self-paced
- Assistance in securing training subsidies for employers
- Internationally recognized strategic training partnerships with business, government, education and the community
- Screening and training job applicant pools in soft skills for job readiness
- Concentrated, short-term training programs that are developed and offered as the local labor market demands. These programs range from five to twenty
weeks in length. The following are ongoing programs being offered:
Computer Software Learning On-Demand $10 per module hour + fees PC Support Certificate (A+) $2,800 Preparation for Apprenticeship Testing $500
Other training for positions in Facilities Maintenance, and In-Home Child Care, or as Health Unit Coordinators have been delivered in the past and
are available for future industry partners.
