Database Access Help

  • Find Articles from an OCC location: On Articles / Databases simply click on the name of the database.
  • Find Articles from anywhere else: On this version of Articles/Databases, log in to the library databases using your OCC Online Services user name and password (the same ones you use to log in for registration and to check grades). Click on this link Online Services to find out more about how to log in.
Alternative methods from any location:
  • Online Services: Click on Students, and Login using your Online Services user name and password. After logging in, under College Resources, you will see Online Library Resources which has links into the databases. Faculty can sign in with your OCC user name and password.
  • Blackboard or Educator - You must be taking a class that uses Blackboard or Educator. In Blackboard, select the button “Library Resources”.
  • MeL Databases - Log in using your state ID or driver's license. Not all OCC databases are available.
  • If all else fails, ask a librarian for a print-out of special IDs and passwords.
General  Tips and Known Issues
  • Legitimate OCC Users Only: Only students currently taking classes or persons employed by OCC will be able to get into the databases from off campus. Students can try the OCC Student Technical HelpDesk for general technology questions
  • Trusted site or Security Certificate Error: When you try to access the library resources, you may get the following  or similar error message: "There is a problem with this website’s security certificate… We recommend that you close this webpage and do not continue to this website." However, it is safe to use the website. Click here for more information.
  • Password Resets: The OCC Online Services user name/password is required to use library article databases from home, to use your internet printing account, and for OCC functions like registering for classes or checking your grades.  See the College’s Online Services page to see how to set up a new user name/password or request a password reset. If you need to have your password reset, check with Library staff in person as they may be able to assist you. Bring an official picture ID, such as a driver’s license.
  • Popups: Databases open in their own windows. Hit control and the link to temporarily override a popup blocker or disable the blocker. For Internet Explorer 6, go to Tools, Popup Blocker and Turn Off Popup Blocker. For Internet Explorer 7, go to Tools, Popup Blocker, and Turn Off Popup Blocker.
  • Cookies: Cookies must be enabled to use the databases from off-campus.
    • In Internet Explorer 6, go to Tools, Internet Options, then to the Privacy Tab. Set the slide to Medium, Low or Accept All Cookies. Apply and OK.
    • In Internet Explorer 7, go to Tools, Internet Options, Privacy, Advanced Privacy Settings, check Override Automatic Cookie handling, and select Always Accept Session Cookies. Apply OK.
  • Norton Internet Security program: Norton Internet Security (not Norton Anti-Virus) may block access into databases. This can be temporarily turned off. Go into the controls for the program to disable it.
  • Ad-Blocker programs may need to be temporarily disabled.
  • Firewalls may need to be temporarily disabled.
