A personalized and portable collection of items and materials assembled to complement your resume at an interview.  It must represent your work history and career.

Points to Remember:

  • There is no single correct way to build a portfolio.  It should be a reflection of an individual's work history.

  • Include items that are relevant to the job you're applying for employment.

  • Use professional presentation materials - binders, sleeves, etc. to organize in a reader-friendly format.

  • Use a résumé to get the interview and the portfolio to illustrate your strengths during the interview.

  • Don't focus too heavily on a portfolio.  Use it as support.

  • Never mail or drop off a portfolio.  It should supplement a personal interview where you are present to explain the contents.
