Community Service is defined as service
through local non-profit, governmental and community-based organizations
that is designed to improve the quality of life for community residents
(particularly low-income individuals) and/or to solve particular problems
related to their needs. A service is considered open to the community if
the service is publicized to the community and members of the community
use the service.
The
services offered by the student must benefit the community as opposed to
the agency
or the organization. These services include such fields as
health care, child care, literacy training, education/tutorial, support
services for students with disabilities, welfare, social services,
transportation, housing and neighborhood improvement, public safety, crime
prevention and control, recreation and community improvement.
If
you are interested in becoming an approved Community Service Work-study
Site, contact
Dawn M. Davis,
Job Developer at OCC. As part of a
collaborative effort between the Office of Financial Services and
Scholarships and the Placement Services Department of Oakland Community
College, we sincerely wish to thank our local businesses for their
support.
Vision: Oakland Community College puts students first so they
reach their highest potential. We are a caring college that values
innovation, high quality service, and professionalism at every level.
OCC is an equal opportunity institution.
