Ceramics Departments at OCC Royal Oak Campus, Orchard Ridge Campus, & Auburn Hills Campus
PURPOSE OF OCC'S
CERAMICS PROGRAMS To create a learning environment that encourages personal openness, creativity and technical support. The OCC ceramics program provides opportunities for study at three uniquely different clay studios with experienced instructors committed to expanding the human potential in each student. Oriented toward persons who want to enrich their lives and increase their ceramic skills, the program can be pursued to obtain professional pottery making skills, to earn Art or Humanities credit for transfer to a University or Art school, to earn an Associates Degree in Ceramic Technology or to simply enjoy the excitement and satisfaction of working with clay.
The ceramics program on the Royal Oak campus is designed to provide the knowledge and skills necessary to earn a full or part time income from clay. Skill development in basic and production techniques are stressed, along with decorating , glazing, and firing procedures. An introduction to the marketing of pottery products is experienced through participation in the annual Potters Market, a sale of advanced students' ware. In the past twenty five years, the Potters Market has become the largest sale of its kind in the country.

For Registration Information Phone (248) 341- 2200 The Royal Oak Ceramics Studio The Royal Oak studio has 6600sq.ft. including a clay room, a glaze kitchen, a damp room, a kiln room, a main studio for wheel throwing and hand building, and a room containing our library, our pottery collection, and also serves as a classroom. Raku is fired directly behind the studio. Our studio stoneware is white and is fired to approximately cone 6 oxidation (2230° F)
