  • OCC Parking Update for the Royal Oak Campus: The Ford Arts, Beats & Eats will be held in the downtown Royal Oak area Labor Day weekend, September 3-6. Traffic congestion and detours can be expected. The festival will block off Washington street from 11 Mile to Lincoln beginning late Thursday/ early Friday. Other street closures will apply. Main street will remain open. To access OCC parking structures on Friday, September 3rd, thru Noon on Saturday, September 4th, a parking permit, OCC ID badge, or proof of course registration will be required. Students and staff should be prepared to schedule accordingly.

  • The 11th Annual Michael Golds Memorial AD/HD Conference: The Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder conference will be held on Friday, September 24, 2010 at the Orchard Ridge campus from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. The overall goal of this conference is to empower individuals with AD/HD, their families, friends, educators, employers and mental health professionals with the latest researched-based information on AD/HD.   • OCC Blood Drive/ Health Awareness Fair: Did you know that every 2 seconds, someone in America needs blood? You can help by donating on Thursday, September 30, 2010 from 2:00 pm - 7:00 pm at the Highland Lakes Campus. You will also have an opportunity to speak with several different health professionals. A nutritionist, personal trainer, mobile nursing clinic, physical therapist and more will be on hand to answer your health questions. Learn to eat right, exercise, and take care of your mind and body! Prize raffle winners will be announced every thirty minutes. This is a free community event.   • OCC offers Fall 911 Dispatch Academy: The fall session begins at the Auburn Hills campus, September 28 to November 11. The six week program consists of 168 hours, and includes; classroom instruction, hands-on computer aided dispatching, and multi-line and radio console training. Tuition is $2,150 and the program has been approved by Michigan Works! for No Worker Left Behind funding. For more information call 248.232.4220 to reserve a seat or for further information.
     
  • OCC's Forensics (Competitive Public Speaking and Competitive Performance): The first of many forensics events will be held on September 25, 2010 at the Orchard Ridge campus and go through March or April. Students prepare a dramatic piece or speech and compete against other college students. OCC has had both state and national winners, so your focus and determination are what is necessary.   • OCC's 19th Annual "Golf for Scholarships" Outing: Join us at our 19th annual golf outing on Friday, August 20, at the beautiful Pine Knob Golf Course. A shotgun start will sound off at 1:00 pm. The practice tee will be available at 11:00 am. Lunch begins at 11:30 am. This will be an excellent opportunity for business-to-business networking or just to play a friendly game of golf while raising funds for scholarships. Come join the fun!   • OCC's Court Reporting Program: In response to the nation’s continued need for highly qualified Court, CART, and Caption reporters, Oakland Community College’s Royal Oak campus presents to prospective candidates of the Court Reporting program an opportunity to attend an informational meeting to learn more about this growing and exciting field, the instructional approach offered at OCC, and why the Bureau of Labor Statistics states that, “Employment of court reporters is projected to grow 18 percent, faster than the average for all occupations between 2008 and 2018.”
     
    Compensation and compensation methods for court reporters vary with the type of reporting job, the experience of the individual reporter, the level of certification achieved, and the region of the country. The median annual wages in May 2008 were $51,150 for court reporters working in local government and $44,670 for those working in business support services.
     
    The informational meeting will be held Wednesday, August 18 from 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm at the Royal Oak campus in Room A110. You must register for the meeting and may call 248.246.2632 or 248.246.2638 to register your attendance. Failure to register may lead to cancellation of the workshop.
     
    The Royal Oak Campus is located at 739 S. Washington in downtown Royal Oak. Ample free parking is available in the campus parking structure located adjacent to the campus. Information and class schedules are available on campus and at http://www.oaklandcc.edu.
    Fall classes begin Thursday, September 2, 2010.

  • Student Financial Resources and Scholarships: The 2010-11 student loan request form is now available online at the Student Financial Resources & Scholarships (SFRS) homepage. All students must complete the loan request form, enter loan counseling, and complete the master promissory note (MPN) before a loan can be processed for the Direct Loan Program.   • Student Financial Resources and Scholarships - Guaranteed Processing Deadline Date (GPDD): June 30, 2010: If your file is complete and accurate by June 30, 2010, our Guaranteed Processing Deadline Date (GPDD), it will be processed by the beginning of classes (September, 2, 2010). If not, you must pay for your classes and, if eligible for financial assistance, receive reimbursement after your financial aid has been disbursed. File processing is on-going. Check Online Services continuously for your award notice.
    Important
    - If you have a financial aid award, you must drop the classes if you decide not to attend school. Your financial aid award holds your classes unless you officially drop the class. Go to Online Services to drop the class. You will be responsible for the amount owed if you do not attend class.
