Exercise Science and Technology
Building a Healthier Tomorrow
Oakland Community College offers an associate
degree or a one-year certificate program in Exercise
Science and Technology. The program also offers
an extended degree option, which couples exercise
science with the field of business.
The Program:
- Features a science based foundation
- Offers hands-on experience via labs and
internships
- Prepares a student to work in the health/fitness
profession
- Affords the opportunity to prepare for professional
certification exams (e.g. ACSM, ACE, NSCA)
According to the bureau of Labor Statistics Employment Projections,
fitness trainers were listed as one of the fastest growing occupations in
2002-2012. The 2002 average salary for a fitness trainer was $29,100
per year. To become a successful fitness trainer, an individual needs
to be knowledgeable in exercise science and aware of current and future
trends in the profession.
