Application Filing Recommendations


Applications Processing Dates for F-1 International Students

These processing dates are based on U.S. Embassy visa application processing times, security requirements, Department of Homeland Security processing times, and DHS reporting requirements for F-1 students.  Oakland Community College cannot guarantee Department of State or Department of Homeland Security processing of visa applications or change of status petitions in a timely manner.

Fall 2009

Out of Country Applicants
Applications and all accompanying forms/requirements/documents must be received by OCC on or before June 1, 2009.

Students arriving from out of country must report to their OCC International Student Advisor on or before August 11, 2009.

Transfer Applicants
Students attending other U.S. schools, who seek to transfer to OCC, must apply and complete all forms/requirements/documents by August 1, 2009.

Applicants Seeking Change of Status from another Non-Immigrant Status to F-1
F-1 status applicants within the U.S. should submit OCC application and all forms/requirements/documents by June 1, 2009 for possible Fall 2009 attendance.  Along with I-20 issuance, students should meet with an attorney for change of status application to DHS.  DHS processing times can take at least 3 months or more and B-1/B-2 status students cannot enroll until COS applications are approved.

Additionally, applications should be complete at least 30 days prior to the I-94 expiration date or DS-2019 ending date of the students’ current status.

Winter 2010

Out of Country Applicants
Applications and all accompanying forms/requirements/documents must be received by OCC on or before September 15, 2009.

Students arriving from out of country must report to their OCC International Student Advisor on or before December 3, 2009.

Transfer Applicants
Students attending other U.S. schools, who seek to transfer to OCC, must apply and complete all forms/requirements/documents by November 15, 2009

Applicants Seeking Change of Status from another Non-Immigrant Status to F-1
F-1 status applicants within the U.S. should submit OCC application and all forms/requirements/documents by September 15, 2009 for possible Winter 2010 attendance.  Along with I-20 issuance, students should meet with an attorney for change of status application to DHS.  DHS processing times can take at least 3 months or more and B-1/B-2 status students cannot enroll until COS applications are approved.

Additionally, applications should be complete at least 30 days prior to the I-94 expiration date or DS-2019 ending date of the student’s current status.

Summer 2010

Out of Country Applicants
Applications and all accompanying forms/requirements/documents must be received by OCC on or before February 1, 2010.

Students arriving from out of country must report to their OCC International Student Advisor on or before April 14, 2010.

Transfer Applicants
Students attending other U.S. schools, who seek to transfer to OCC, should apply and complete all forms/requirements/documents by April 1, 2010.

Applicants Seeking Change of status from another Non-Immigrant Status to F-1
F-1 status applicants within the U.S. should submit OCC application and all forms/requirements/documents by February 1, 2010 for possible Summer 2010 attendance.  Along with I-20 issuance, students should meet with an attorney for change of status application to DHS.  DHS processing times can take at least 3 months or more and B-1/B-2 status students cannot enroll until COS applications are approved.

Additionally, applications should be complete at least 30 days prior to the I-94 expiration date or DS-2019 ending date of the student’s current status.
