Computers and Creativity:
Changing Techniques to Adapt to Technology
With rapid changes in technology affecting
most aspects of everyday life, the art world is not immune from technological
changes as well. Computers are to be viewed as an additional instrument to aid
in the creation of art, both in fostering ideas and producing graphic images.
Computer-aided art is by no means a substitute or replacement for traditional
forms of art. Rather, the computer is to be viewed as a tool in conjunction
with creating traditional forms of art. As an artist, I cannot be oblivious
to an invention such as the computer, where speed and versatility are difficult
to ignore. If artists can find new tools to assist or enhance the creative process,
then such changes should be positively viewed. However, as useful a tool as
the computer can prove to be, artists should always be mindful of its limitations
and focus on traditional forms of artistic expression.
