The
Oakland County Tech Prep Consortium is comprised of 28 school districts,
over 50 high schools, including alternative education programs,
four technical centers, five campuses of Oakland Community College
and Oakland Schools, the intermediate school district of Oakland
County. Oakland Schools serves as the coordinating agency partner.
Oakland Community College serves as the fiscal agency partner. Business
and industry labor partners support the curriculum by their endorsement
through industry standards. Tech Prep is an integral part of the
Regional Initiatives Alignment which also includes the Careers Preparation
System and Perkins Secondary programs in the County.
Geography:
Oakland County is north of Detroit, MI and encompasses 910 square
miles. The county has 450 lakes within its boundaries.
Population:
The population for the year 2000 was 1,255,285. The estimated median
age in the county is 37.4 years of age.
Median Income:
The median income per household for 1999 was $57,255 (469,672 households
as of 9/99).
Commerce:
Six Fortune 500 companies do business in the county. It is the third
wealthiest county in the nation. Oakland County's total retail sales
in 1996 were greater than that of 17 states. Robotics firms in Oakland
County account for more that 50% of all U.S. robotics sales.
