Paramedic Program
The OCC Paramedic Program is offered once per year beginning each fall. The lecture and lab courses are 15 weeks long per semester, meeting once a week in the fall and two times per week in the winter, each for six-hour sessions. Students will also take EMS 2005, Paramedic I clinical in the fall and EMS 2100, Paramedic II clinical in the winter with EMS 2220 and 2320.
The winter lectures and labs are followed by 15 weeks of internship EMS 2450. Prerequisites include completion of an EMT program, pre- or co-requisites include completion of BIO 1650 (Anatomy and Physiology for EMS Providers) or Anatomy and Physiology I & II (BIO 2630 & 2640), and Pathophysiology (BIO 2660). EMS 2010 (EMS Communications) is a requirement for completion of the program and will be taken fall semester after completion of EMT, during the course of paramedic training.
EMS 2600, offered in the summer semester, is required before the EMS Program Director will approve a student to take the paramedic National Registry exam. Currently, students successfully completing all courses may be eligible to apply for the National Registry Paramedic Exam and to apply for a State Paramedic license. Students must be accepted into the program prior to registration, and must attend an orientation if they have not attended courses in the OCC EMS Program previously.
Oakland Community College does not accept advanced placement for its paramedic program.
