SMOKE Approved Q Course (Q30E)
The purpose of the Fire Engine Operator – Practical course is to provide students the opportunity to hone their pump operation skills through practical hands on training. Students will gain the KSA’s (knowledge, skills, abilities) to obtain a water supply, estimate hose stretches, operate fire apparatus pumps, manage multiple lines, and problem solve in an effort to maximize the effectiveness of the fire apparatus on a fire ground. This course is intended to add additional practical training to reinforce the objectives covered in the MFFTC Pump Operator course.
SMOKE Approved Q Course (Q15A)
Flashover training is designed to increase knowledge of fire behavior and to teach the student how to recognize the warning signs of imminent flashover. Because this live burn training is so essential to the modern fire service, OCC has the ability for the Phase I and Phase II Flashover Simulator training to be conducted at your location or at our CREST facility, which is located on our Auburn Hills Campus.
SMOKE Approved Q Course (Q45F)
The purpose of this 4-hour course is to provide students the opportunity to develop their forcible entry skills via hands-on training with a variety of props. Students will gain the knowledge, skills, and abilities to obtain entry into a building in the safest, most efficient manner to protect life and property.
SMOKE Approved Q Course (Q45G)

SMOKE Approved Q Course (Q22F)
The purpose of the High-Rise Firefighting Operations class is to provide certified firefighters the opportunity to expand their knowledge, skills and abilities pertaining to high-rise and standpipe equipped building fire operations. The class will incorporate both lecture and hands-on practical workshops and scenarios. Fires in high-rise and stand-pipe equipped buildings present unique and complex challenges to the fire company and incident commander. Students will review building construction, size-up, initial fire company operations, ongoing support company operations, and strategic and tactical objectives specific to high-rise operations with the emphasis on life safety, incident stabilization, and property conservation.
SMOKE Approved Q Course (Q37E)
The Recon RIT survival and Rapid Intervention Crew training course, teaches students basic attitudes and techniques to help them survive on the fire ground. The course follows a logical progression beginning with individual survival and ending with complete team based rapid intervention crew operations.
There are three modules to this course covering Firefighter Survival, Firefighter Rescue, and Rapid Intervention Team Operations both in the lecture and practical format:
- Day 1 is spent building prevention skills into each firefighter (and preparing them to be members of a RIT). Skills include SCBA emergencies, MAYDAY, disorientation emergencies and emergency escape techniques.
- Day 2 is spent learning the individual techniques and skills involved in firefighter rescue. Skills include emergency air supply, searching for a firefighter, assessing and packaging a downed firefighter, drags and carries, ladder rescues, rescues from entanglements, breaches, below grade and restricted areas.
- Day 3 details the positions, assignments, and fire ground operations (proactive tasks, tool use, staging and more) of a RIT team. Skills include performing as the RIT Officer, Navigation, Air Supply and the Search and Packaging firefighter assigned to a RIT team. Day three scenarios combine all skills learned, under realistic fire ground conditions, while operating as a RIT in response to a fire ground MAYDAY.
The intense three day course provides students with the solid foundation and skill-set required to work as a member of a rapid intervention team on the fire ground.
