Evidence Technician School Levels 1 & 2
Instructors are highly qualified experts in their respective fields of law, crime lab, medical examiner’s office, photography, fingerprinting, traffic and major crime investigations.
Course Description:
This course is designed to provide police officers with the fundamentals of evidence processing and the skills necessary to properly investigate a crime scene. Each attendee will receive extensive handouts and support material.
The workshop will include hands-on training, lecture, video and discussion in the following areas:
- Photography
- Legal Aspects
- Fingerprint Development
- Major Crimes Investigation
- Casting, Footwear and Tire Impressions
- Firearms Evidence
- Collection of Evidence
- DNA Evidence
- Recording the Scene
- Trace Evidence
- Mock Crime Scenes
Each student should bring the photo equipment that they will be using on the street.
This includes the following:
- The camera needs to be a good quality: Cannon or Nikon DSLR camera with appropriate lenses
- At least two good batteries for the camera and a working battery charger
- A professional quality external flash unit with a hot shoe flash extendable cable, or wireless configuration
- A remote shutter release, either wireless or cabled
- At least 2 Digital Storage Cards specific to the camera
- Flash to Camera Cord (attaches camera and flash unit together)
- Good batteries for the flash unit, along with extra batteries
- A good quality, law enforcement grade flashlight
- A good quality professional grade tri-pod
