Empowered Women

Empowered Women

March is Women’s History Month

In celebration of national Women’s History Month, OCC employees and students reflect on the women of OCC who empower and inspire others. Together, we celebrate these – and the many women of OCC – whose contributions positively impact our culture and community each day. They are “excellence EMPOWERED!”

Name of Nominee
Celeste Bogan Celeste is the best math teacher I've ever had. Her "no student left behind" philosophy is evident in every class meeting. She goes above and beyond to ensure understanding of all course content and encourages students the entire way. Her sense of humor is amazing which brings so much joy to class. Thank you Ms. B!
Sara Bowman Sara is such an engaged, dedicated and student-focuses leader on the OCC team.  Her approach to students helps them feel a sense of community throughout their time at the college and in the Paralegal program.  She helps them connect to the field and professional opportunities for growth.  She is an enthusiastic participant in so many aspects of OCC and that enthusiasm is contagious.  We are so lucky to have her here!
Cindy Carbone Dean Carbone has managed to handle her position while dealing with a family issue which was weighing on her mind.  Dean Carbone embodies commitment and dedication.

Julie Gunkelman Julie is bringing together a group of math faculty to make impactful change to the math curriculum.  Her leadership and enthusiasm are vital to the success of our project.
Kathleen Hendricks Kathy is an adjunct counselor.  I have witnessed her work with students and help guide them to the classes they need to complete their degree.  While she is part time, she will answer email after her time is completed.
Reagan Irey Reagan has been a tutor here at OCC for several years.  During that time, I have seen her give and give, putting others ahead of herself, providing much needed help to those who are struggling and might not otherwise make it.  This is someone who doesn't seek accolades and thus is most deserving of them.
Kathleen Kelly Simply put, Kathleen is a ray of sunshine who helps advance so much at OCC with skill and positivity. Her approach to all she does makes it such a pleasure to work with her, and she truly cares about OCC. Her energy, organization and demeanor are invaluable to the College and help to make it a wonderful place to work. Kathleen has built a network of administrative assistants at the College, that connect, support and collaborate with each other. She looks beyond her role to foster a sense of connection and encourages us all to share our knowledge and strengths for the benefit of the team and the College.
Rachel Lathrop Rachel is a tireless advocate for how we serve students at OCC.  Her commitment to accessibility, continuous improvement and educational outcomes is evident in all she does.  She regularly brings together large cross-functional groups and helps them stay on track to achieving a larger goal.  She and her whole team help advance the College in so many ways, both seen and unseen.  The service to students is always at the core.
