OAKLAND COUNTY, Michigan — Joseph L. Petrosky brings an extensive background in education and manufacturing
to his new assignment as associate vice chancellor for academic affairs at Oakland
Community College, starting Jan. 22. In his new role, Petrosky’s responsibilities
include engineering, manufacturing and technology; business administration; information
technology; and workforce development.
Petrosky joins OCC from Macomb Community College, where he has been dean of engineering and advanced technology since April 2008. In this role, Petrosky was responsible for Macomb’s programs in automotive, advanced manufacturing, welding, product design, facilities design and construction, electronics, mechatronics, renewable energy, and media and communication arts. He oversaw 30 full-time faculty members and more than 100 adjunct and contract instructors while managing annual budgets of more than $10 million. Petrosky was also associate dean of applied technology and automotive and technical education and director of applied technology and apprenticeship.
"I look forward to joining the team at Oakland Community College and serving our students and the community by enhancing collaboration with business and education partners and further aligning our career academic and workforce programs to meet and exceed the requirements for in-demand jobs," Petrosky said.
Before joining Macomb Community College, Petrosky was director of government and public affairs at Focus: HOPE, a promotion from general manager of the nonprofit’s Center for Advanced Technologies. He also worked in the private sector as a project engineer and marketing associate in the AC Rochester division of General Motors, now known as Delphi Corp.

Petrosky graduated with a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering from Lawrence Technological University and has an MBA from the University of Michigan. He also was a graduate of the 2006-07 class of Leadership Macomb and is a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers.
