Online Learning Readiness Course

Description

This course is a mandatory prerequisite for students wanting to enroll in online or hybrid courses. No exemptions are allowed or equivalencies accepted. 

This course is also recommended, but not required, for students whose lecture and lab courses are not online or hybrid but utilize D2L. 

The Online Learning Readiness Course DIST 1000 provides a hands-on introduction to the key features of D2L, OCC's online classroom environment. You'll get a clear picture of what it takes to be successful in an online class as you review topics ranging from time management to technology skills.

Access and Complete the Course

The Online Learning Readiness Course DIST 1000 is a non-credit, no-cost course and is mandatory for students who want to enroll in online or hybrid courses. To access the Online Learning Readiness course: 

  1. Log into MyOCC.
  2. Locate the Pre-Registration Steps card.
  3. Select Online Learning Readiness Course (DIST 1000).
  4. Sign in with your MyOCC username and password. 
  5. Click on the Online Learning Readiness Course (DIST 1000) tile. The course is available 24/7 on all devices.
  6. Average time to complete this self-paced course is 1.5 hours. You may exit the course and return at any time to pick up where you left off.
  7. To pass this course, you must complete each activity, score 75% or higher on each quiz, and fill out the course survey.
  8. Once you have reached the end of the course, you will see the Congratulations message with next steps on how to register for online or hybrid courses. Please wait 30 minutes before registering for online or hybrid courses. 

Note: Successfully completing the DIST 1000 course once will allow you to register for online and hybrid courses in the current and future semesters.

Do I have to take the Online Learning Readiness course to take an online or hybrid course at OCC?

Yes. You must successfully complete this course in order to register for online or hybrid courses.

Do I have to take the Online Learning Readiness course to take a remote course at OCC?

If you are enrolling in a remote course, it is not mandatory that you take the Online Learning Readiness Course, although some instructors may recommend it for their students.

Do I have to take the Online Learning Readiness course every semester before registering for online or hybrid courses?

No. Once you successfully complete the Online Learning Readiness course, you do not have to take it again.

How long does the course take to complete?

Average time to complete this self-paced course is 1.5 hours. You may exit the course and return at any time to pick up where you left off.

What am I required to complete in the course?

You must complete the Course Introduction module, and Lessons 1-10 modules with accompanying quizzes.

What score must I achieve to receive a passing grade?

You must complete each activity, score 75% or higher on each quiz, and fill out the course survey.

Why can't I see the lesson quiz?

You must complete all topics in a lesson in order to gain access to a lesson's quiz.

What happens if I don't receive a 75% or higher score in the course?

You may continue to retake the quizzes until you pass with a 75% or higher score.

Once I successfully complete the course, how soon can I register for online or hybrid courses?

Once you have reached the end of the course, you will see the Congratulations message with next steps on how to register for online or hybrid courses. Please wait 30 minutes before registering for online or hybrid courses.

How long will I have access to the course after I have successfully completed it?

Although you'll only need to take and complete this course once as an OCC student, you may return to this course at any time and use it as a reference.
