I.  Policy Statement
OCC is committed to maintaining a learning environment where all persons feel safe to carry out their educational goals. To foster the development of a community that values the safety of each individual, OCC has created a Threat Assessment and Safety Committee (“TASC”) to evaluate and promote safety at the college.

The Threat Assessment & Safety Committee Procedures for this threat assessment policy establish a process for individualized risk assessment, safety intervention, and possible leave of absence withdrawal (voluntary, involuntary) for students who pose a credible, substantial risk of self-harm or harm to others within the Oakland Community College (OCC) community, or who substantially impede lawful activities, the educational process, or proper activities or functions of other members of OCC.

II. Reason for Policy
A student will be subject to an individualized risk assessment, safety intervention, and possible leave of absence (voluntary, involuntary) if the student:

  • Poses a credible, substantial risk of self-harm or harm to individuals at OCC or to the OCC community as a whole; and/or
  • Substantially impedes the lawful activities of other members of the OCC community, or the educational process or proper activities or functions of OCC.

III. Who Does this Policy Affect
Students, faculty, employees, visitors, vendors, Board of Trustees financial aid resources.
