Cinematic Arts Concentration

The OCC Cinematic Arts concentration has been designed to give you a comprehensive understanding of the nature of film as an art form.

OCC's Cinematic Arts concentration provides an in-depth understanding of the entire filmmaking process, and prepares students to excel in many areas, including: film studies, editing, directing, animation, screenwriting, sound design and digital cinematography.

Transfer to a university: the Cinematic Arts curriculum has been created with transferring in mind. Most credits will be accepted for entry into film programs at universities including Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan Oakland University and Wayne State.

Film and video editors and camera operators typically work in studios or in office settings. Camera operators and videographers often shoot raw footage on location.

Overall employment of film and video editors and camera operators is projected to grow 13 percent from 2016 to 2026, faster than the average for all occupations. The number of Internet-only platforms, such as streaming services, is likely to increase, along with the number of shows produced for these platforms. This growth may lead to more work for editors and camera operators.
