HESI Exam

The M-TECSM Testing Center offers testing for Nursing, Respiratory Therapy, Diagnostic Medical Sonography and Dental Hygiene programs. The Testing Center is located at Oakland Community College on the Auburn Hills campus in Building M. The M-TECSM Testing Center is conveniently located off of M-59 and Squirrel Road. 

Oakland Community College requires applicants in the programs listed above to take the HESI Entrance Exam. You must achieve a minimum score of 75 on each section, achieved within the same testing session. The Hesi Exam can ONLY be attempted TWICE (DHY, NUR & RSP).

DMS applicants ONLY, may take the HESI Exam three times with 6 months in between your second and third attempt. To register for a third attempt, please call the M-TECSM Testing Center at 248-232-4168.

HESI FACT: Students do NOT need to complete all their prerequisites before taking the HESI exam. We highly recommend students prepare for the HESI Exam using the HESI Exam Preparation resources below and register early for your first attempt. Registering early will provide students with extra resources and adequate time to help you prepare for your second attempt if needed. 

RSP - Registration now open! The program application deadline is Wednesday, May 1st, 2025. The deadline to take your HESI Exam is Friday, April 25th, 2025! 

DHY, NUR & DMS - Registration coming soon. Please check back for updates! The program application deadline is Monday, December 15th, 2025. The deadline to take your HESI Exam is Friday, November 21, 2025!

The HESI Exam is typically offered on Friday's,  January through December with limited seating available for each testing date. You must register for one of these testing dates!

What You Need to Know About the HESI Exam

  • Results: Your score will be available at the end of the exam. Keep a copy of your scores for your records.
  • On Test Day: Arrive at least 15 minutes prior to test start time with a government-issued, non-expired photo ID. You MUST bring your Elsevier account details (username and password).
  • Exam Fee: The non-transferable and non-refundable testing fee must be paid at the time of registration (price subject to change without notice). Cancellations or "No Shows" will NOT result in a refund.

Access your HESI scores from Evolve:

  • Log in to your Evolve account
  • Click Student Access 
  • Click HESI Assessment in the Content List of your My Evolve page 
  • Under My Exams, select Exam History 
  • Select Materials 
  • Select the exam summary to view your score, class average, and other information 
  • Click the link to View Your Detailed Scoring Report

ACCESS students who require accommodations must contact their campus ACCESS Office a minimum of 1 week prior to test date.

After you have registered for the HESI exam of your choice, you must create an Elsevier account. Write down your username and password and bring it with you on testing day.

Be sure the testing date works for your schedule.

Due to limited seating, rescheduling is not allowed and test fees are non-refundable.

HESI Exam Preparation

  • Online HESI Study/Test Strategies Seminars: Students must sign up using student email address for verification and password. Please register at least 2 days before the seminar to ensure we have time to process and send you the password. To register, go to Academic Support Center and click Virtual & In Person Seminars then click on HESI Study/Test Strategies Seminars.
  • Online Practice Test
  • Health Education Systems publishes a guide to help you prepare for the exam. You may purchase the HESI Admission Assessment Exam Review.
  • Free tutoring at OCC through the Academic Support Center. Tutoring is available at all campus locations, please contact the ASC for a current tutoring schedule.
