The purpose of this program is to acquaint trainees with the skills and knowledge needed to perform the duties and responsibilities of a reserve officer.

Eligibility: Candidates will be admitted upon the written recommendation of a Chief, Director or Sheriff of a law enforcement agency, and will be subject to the rules and regulations of the Oakland Police Academy during the training sessions.

All students must have:

  • Duty Firearm: No sub-compact weapons
  • Duty Flashlight with pouch
  • Duty Handcuffs with pouch
  • Duty Holster with at-least a Level I retention.
    • Any higher retention level is not required or recommended
  • 3 magazines
  • Double magazine pouch. Triple would be approved
  • Hat
