Continuing Professional Education (CPE) 2025

In accordance with Public Act 1 of 2023 requiring in-service training for all licensed police officers, the Oakland Police Academy is offering training in 2025 centering on Mental Health Crisis. Students attending will learn how to properly and professionally deal with individuals they come into contact with who are experiencing a mental health crisis. The training is taught by instructors highly qualified in their respective field. 

Participants can attend all three days of training for a total cost of $400, or they can attend individual blocks of instruction of their choice.  Prices are listed next to each block below.

Day 1

  • Mental Health Crisis & Scenarios – 8 hours (8:00 am – 5:00 pm)
    • Presented by Dr. Mary Thomas and Renee Henson
    • This block ONLY COST:  $175.00

Day 2

  • Dementia Safety: Improving the Effectiveness for Law Enforcement & First Responders – 4 hours (8:00 am – Noon)
    • Presented by Debra Ross, Alzheimer's Association, Greater Michigan Chapter
    • This block ONLY COST: $100.00
  • Ethics in Policing: An In-Service Refresher – 4 hours (1:00 pm – 5:00 pm)
    • Presented by David Molloy, Deputy Director of Michigan High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas and former Public Safety Director for the city of Novi, Michigan
    • This block ONLY COST: $100.00

Day 3

  • Law & Procedure for Peace Officers Under the Michigan Mental Health Code - 4 hours (8:00 am – Noon)
    • Michigan Mental Health Code, Mental Health Petitions, Legal Considerations
    • Presented by Jason Pernick, Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, Oakland County Prosecutor's Office, retired
    • This block ONLY COST: $100.00
  • "People, Police and Cultural Competence" – 4 hours (1:00 pm – 5:00 pm) 
    • Presented by Daniel Rodriguez, Deputy Chief, Farmington Hills Police Department, retired
    • This block ONLY COST: $100.00
