Oakland Community College’s (OCC) Nursing program will continue to be among the best in the state as it has again earned prestigious continued accreditation from the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) through 2030. It is the maximum period of accreditation for associate degree programs before the next ACEN visit.
In its formal accreditation notification, the ACEN indicated that OCC’s Nursing program’s aggregate licensure examination pass rates for the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) have been greater than 90% for the past three years, a major area of strength for the program.
“We take great pride in the continuation of compliance with ACEN accreditation standards and the near 90% pass rates on the licensure exam by our students, “ said Zenet Patten, Associate Dean of Nursing and Health Professions. “This accreditation is really a tribute to the hard work and dedication of our faculty and staff to provide a quality education to our students and prepare them for a successful nursing career upon graduation.”
ACEN’s Board of Commissioners granted OCC’s Nursing program continuing accreditation and scheduled the next evaluation visit for Fall 2030. The ACEN visited OCC in September 2022 to review the Nursing program for this current accreditation evaluation. OCC was first accredited by ACEN in 1990.
Oakland Community College’s nursing program is one of the largest and most affordable nursing programs in the state where students receive an exceptional variety of clinical experiences, including rotations at Ascension, Beaumont/Corewell Health, Detroit Medical Center, Henry Ford Health, McLaren Health Care and Trinity Health hospitals and their affiliates. In a June 2022 survey of recent OCC Associate Degree Nursing graduates, 85.7% reported the quality of education was outstanding to above average and 90.5% are employed in the nursing profession after passing the NCLEX-RN.
