“We are fortunate to have Dr. Benjamins talents and commitment to OCC, including his rich and varied experiences supporting teaching and learning—both inside and outside the classroom,” said OCC Provost Dr. Jennifer Berne. “The academic disciplines and career programs within our Social Sciences division will benefit greatly from his curriculum and science of teaching expertise.”

While at WSU, Dr. Benjamins provided guidance on course design, best practices in pedagogy (the science of teaching), and led workshops on active learning. Additionally, he served as a Department Chair and History faculty member at San Jacinto College in Houston, Texas.

Deeply committed to “empowering faculty and students to achieve their highest potential,"  Dr. Benjamins shared his goal to continue to foster and cultivate a vibrant academic environment at OCC; advance the quality and accessibility of online education; and promote active learning through innovative technology and best practices.

“Championing faculty excellence is at the heart of my vision,” said Dr. Benjamins. “I will support professional development, recognize outstanding teaching and scholarship, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.”

Dr. Benjamins earned a Bachelor of Arts from Texas A&M University, a Master of Arts from Southern Methodist University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Houston—all in History.
