Bethany Kennedy, an experienced and dedicated professional with a track record of accomplishments in academic administrative and leadership capacities, has been named dean of academic support services at Oakland Community College.
Kennedy joins OCC from Washtenaw Community College, where she held a variety of academic support positions, including director of Access Services, interim executive director of the Learning Resources Division and, most recently, the director of the College’s Bailey Library. Kennedy has also been actively involved in professional organizations and conference presentations showcasing a passion for library programming and community partnerships.
Dr. Jennifer Berne, OCC provost, academic affairs said Kennedy will oversee ACCESS (Disability Services) the testing centers and the libraries in her new role.
“We are thrilled to welcome Bethany to OCC,” said Berne. “She brings deep experience serving the needs of community college students, faculty, and programs. I know the faculty and staff in the departments reporting to her look forward to working with her as she learns and leads.”
Kennedy expressed that she was drawn to OCC because of its proven commitment to students and the conviction that student success directly impacts community success.
“I will strive to foster an environment where the talented teams in ACCESS, Testing and the Libraries develop and strengthen an interdisciplinary academic support ecosystem connecting students to the outstanding services and resources available across our campuses.”
She holds a bachelor of science in Women’s Studies from Eastern Michigan University and a master’s of library and information science from Wayne State University.
