Information sessions offered April 16 and May 7
OCC is launching a new 14-week Dental Assistant training program beginning May 30. This program offers students a short-term training certificate, equipping them with the essential skills for entry-level positions in dental offices. Classes will be held two days a week, from 4 to 8 p.m., May 30 to August 29 at OCC’s Highland Lakes Campus in Waterford.

Dental assistants play a vital role, working closely with dentists and hygienists to carry out a variety of clinical, administrative and patient care duties. The average entry-level wage range for dental assistants is $20 to $25 per hour.
Key responsibilities of dental assistants include preparing exam rooms, sterilizing instruments, assisting dentists with procedures, taking and processing X-rays and impressions of teeth, educating patients on oral hygiene practices and post-treatment care, and handling patient records, appointment scheduling and front-office tasks.
Upon completion of the training, plus a 40-hour externship in a dental facility, students can qualify for a variety of certifications including Michigan Dental Association (MDA) Radiography and Basic Life Support (BLS).
The cost for the Dental Assistant training is $4,000, which covers tuition, books, materials, scrubs, safety glasses and a lab coat.
The application deadline for the program is May 2. For more information and to register for either of the Information Sessions, visit Dental Assistant.
