DIA Painting Reproductions Brighten Up Campus

During the summer, Oakland Community College’s campuses are filled with an inspiring array of native flora, wildlife and museum masterpiece reproductions as the joy of art and learning moves Inside|Out. This year is no exception.

The Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) brings back its popular community program for students, employees and visitors at OCC. Each campus has between one and five pieces of art, which can be found outside the buildings, near the main pathways, and all within walking distance of each other.

DIA Walking to class takes on new meaning as individuals experience a campus decorated with famous art piece reproductions such as “Noah’s Ark: Genesis,” by Charles McGee,Auburn Hills campus; “Martha and Mary Magdalene,” by Caravaggio, Highland Lakes campus; “Saint Jerome in His Study,” Jan van Eyck, Orchard Ridge campus; “Sunday Morning,” by Thomas Waterman Wood, Royal Oak campus; and “Boy with Plaid Scarf,” by Robert Cozad Henri, Southfield campus.

This is the third year OCC and the DIA have partnered for the Inside|Out program, in which high-definition reproductions are placed in various locations across Oakland, Wayne and Macomb County.

“OCC is especially proud of our long-term relationship with the Detroit Institute of Arts and our ability to bring masterpieces to not only our students and employees but to a broader audience as well, to enjoy,” said OCC’s Director of Government and Community Relations, Eunice Jeffries. “With the largest installation of art for this program and a total of 17 pieces spread out on all of our campuses, the collection speaks to OCC’s prominence within the community.”

Just like Michigan’s summer and fall weather, the Inside|Out exhibition also has its season, closing November 30, 2022. Be sure to see all the different art pieces by checking the DIA artwork campus map.
