Applying classroom learning in real-world situations builds more than resumes: it builds confidence and connections. This fall, Oakland Community College and Detroit Drives Degrees (D3C3) co-sponsored an inaugural Internship Mixer event connecting 70 students with 24 local employers to do just that.
Through the College’s Office of Career Services, the event provided students an opportunity to network and explore career opportunities and internships with area employers. It opened the pipeline to a variety of industries and organizations and provided a direct pipeline to area jobs for students studying business, computer information systems and skilled trades
“Whether our students were networking, exploring career opportunities or connecting to find internships, they all took the first path towards their educational and career journey,” said Cameron Albring, OCC Director of Career Services.
According to Stephanie S. Mackey of Oakland County Parks and Recreation, the connection with OCC students will help fill upcoming job vacancies.
"The students were well prepared, engaged and professional about seeking support for their career development, “Mackey said. “We look forward to attending the winter event, which aligns with our seasonal hiring efforts for the parks system."
