MiVida Burrus Named Trustee on Oakland Community College’s Board of Trustees

MiVida Burrus of Troy has been appointed a Trustee on the Oakland Community College Board of Trustees. Burrus, an OCC alum, was selected from more than 30 applicants to replace the seat vacated by Susan Gibson.

Burrus brings 20 years of community leadership experience, including fund development, grant writing and donor cultivation for area nonprofit organizations, municipalities and colleges. She currently serves as Senior Director of Development at Avalon Healing Center. The Detroit-based non-profit is a comprehensive community organization that provides compassionate and trauma-informed care to survivors of sexual assault. Previously, Burruss served as Development Director for HAVEN, a nationally recognized nonprofit leader that provides comprehensive programs to promote violence-free homes and communities.  

“We are thrilled to have such an accomplished community leader and OCC alum like MiVida on our Board of Trustees,” Chancellor Peter Provenzano, Jr. said. “Her extensive non-profit and community background will provide a great perspective for the College.”

Burrus is active in the community and is the current President of the Greater Detroit Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and a board member of numerous organizations, including Genisys Credit Union; City of Troy’s Global Troy Committee; Encourage Me I’m Young; Teach, Empower Achieve; and Accent Pontiac. She was also selected by the Oakland County Commission to serve as a member of the Detroit Regional Convention Facility Authority

She is a graduate of OCC, earning an associate degree in Business before going on to achieve a Bachelor of Arts in Marketing and a Master’s in Business Administration both from Walsh College.
