Oakland Community College and University of Detroit Mercy are collaborating to bring a bachelor’s degree in Nursing completion program to Oakland County.
The partnership offers associate degree nurses (ADNs) an accelerated pathway to earn a bachelor of science degree in Nursing in 12 months. Students will take seven-week courses with classes offered in online, in-person and hybrid formats. Those accepted into the program can attend either full- or part-time.
The new program expands nursing educational opportunities to help professional nurses advance their careers while addressing the shortage of healthcare professionals throughout the state.
“This new partnership with an institution like Oakland Community College represents another strategic step in helping fill the critical workforce needs in nursing,” said Donald B. Taylor, president of Detroit Mercy. “We are thrilled to work in partnership with Oakland Community College and look forward to many years of successful collaboration.”
OCC Chancellor Peter Provenzano, Jr. echoed Taylor’s enthusiasm.
“This new partnership with UDM offers our current and graduated Nursing students an easier pathway to earn their bachelor of science in Nursing right on our Southfield campus,” added Provenzano. “It also gives other nurses working or living in Oakland County the chance to earn their BSN closer to home.”
Information sessions for the program will take place on the following Wednesdays:
Students who enroll in this program are eligible to receive significant tuition assistance for the winter and fall 2025 cohorts. The deadline to apply to the program is Nov. 25. Admitted students must submit an essay by Dec. 2 to be considered for tuition assistance; students will be notified of the decision on Dec. 9.
The program will operate at Oakland Community College’s Southfield Campus and includes in-person classes and online course work conducted by UDM. In addition, students will receive onsite advising, career services, financial aid and mental health counseling to help ensure their success in the program.
The program’s first cohort will start in January 2025. The second cohort begins in August 2025.
The Detroit Mercy RN to BSN credit tuition is approximately $13,500 for those attending full time. Each cohort is expected to be between 12 and 30 students. The program is supported by a $2-million grant from the Michigan ADN to BSN Completion Grant Program.
