Life often gets in the way of reaching academic goals, and many OCC students have paused their college education to focus on family, job and financial issues. To help these students get back on track towards earning their degree, OCC is partnering with ReUp Education using state funding to recruit and support the College’s stop-out students and help them return to college.
ReUp Education is a national organization that offers support to millions of adults who started college, stopped, and wanted to return but faced layers of hurdles standing in their way.
In a partnership with OCC, ReUp Education will augment the work that OCC does to add outreach, encouragement and support to thousands of the College’s stop-out students and help students find OCC’s services and processes in order to get reenrolled.
The initial ReUp push is to help students age 21-24 access the Michigan Reconnect expansion funding that requires Fall 2024, Winter 2025, or Summer 2025 enrollment and has a December 31 deadline for eligibility.
In conversations with students, themes of motivation, encouragement and next steps repeatedly came up as positive impacts. Students appreciated the outreach from the coaches and were eager to continue.
“They expressed interest in further guidance for their academic and career goals and shared the challenges of balancing life and their higher education pursuits,” said Kristin Carey-Li, Director of College Strategy. “Students often need to juggle working hours, childcare needs and financial challenges while enrolled at OCC, so support and flexibility remain important to their success and degree attainment.”
Students age 21 and over who have not yet completed a college degree can apply for tuition assistance through Michigan Reconnect. OCC services stand at the ready to help you succeed.
