Middle- and High-School Summer Programs at Oakland Community College

Enjoy hands-on career exploration, prep for college success and more

Camps
The Youth Career Discovery Camp is one of the summer programs offered at OCC.

While summer semester classes for students at Oakland Community College (OCC) are in full swing, the College is also offering a variety of educational programs for younger students and recent graduates. The goal of these programs includes hands-on learning, career exploration, college success and fun!

Youth Career Discovery Camp

OCC’s Youth Career Discovery Camp invites middle schoolers ages 10-14 to explore high-demand careers and get involved in team activities. Participants will learn from industry experts about career pathways to help align their skills, talents and interests in areas including Healthcare (Allied Health); Robotics and Automation; Cooking; Engineering/Mechanical and Industrial Technology; and Public Services. Hosted by OCC’s department of Continuing Education.

Jumpstart Program Helps High School Grads Prepare for College

OCC’s Jumpstart Program is a five-week, free one college-course program designed to help recent high school graduates easily transition to college. Qualified participants are Oakland County residents who have earned a high school diploma/GED by the program start date and have not previously attended college classes. Students take home a new Chromebook and $700 scholarship that covers the cost of 6 credits at OCC upon successful completion of the program. Enrollment in an OCC math or English course for Fall 2024 is required.

DEI Exploration Summer Camp

OCC’s Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion hosts its second annual Exploration Summer Camp for middle-school students. The two-week program focuses on how content and discovery come together through inquiry and innovation. This innovative educational experience provides an opportunity to discover each student’s potential and inspire success. Students will engage in diverse experiences, activities and learning enrichment and build their understanding and skills in multiple career fields including healthcare; public services; engineering, manufacturing and technology; American Sign Language; and more. A student showcase is held for families on the last day to highlight what they have learned.

Learn How to Get Free College Tuition at OCC Information Sessions

OCC’s department of Admissions is hosting Reconnect on Campus information sessions for adults 18 and older. The 90-minute sessions help eligible Oakland County residents understand the Michigan Reconnect program, answer questions, provide an overview of resources including free tuition and support in applying to OCC. Participants will hear from other adult students sharing their stories and experiences, and OCC staff will provide tips on the Michigan Reconnect application process and how to be a successful adult student. Oakland County’s Oakland80 staff will provide information, resources and the many ways to afford college.
