Winter Semester Registration Opens at OCC with Many Options for Students to Get Funds to Pay for College

Current students and those who are just beginning or renewing their college career can begin registering for Winter semester classes at Oakland Community College beginning Monday, Oct. 28. Online registration runs through Jan. 5, 2025, and Winter semester classes begin Monday, Jan. 6, 2025.

Priority registration for active students (those who have completed OCC credits within the last three years) begins on Oct. 28; open registration for all students begins on Oct. 29. Prospective students are encouraged to visit  Admissions  for information on applying to OCC. Guest students from other colleges and universities are encouraged to visit  Guest Students  before registering for classes. Students can view the  schedule of classesand review winter class schedules and registration information on  OCC’s registration page.    

Variety of Course Formats Available   

OCC continues to offer a variety of course formats in the winter semester including in-person; hybrid courses – a combination of in-person and online; and an increased number of fully online courses to meet student demand and offer maximum flexibility.  

Some Students Qualify for Free Tuition   

Thanks to two programs offered by the State of Michigan, many recent high school graduates and Michigan residents 21 and older may be able to qualify for free tuition at OCC:   

  • Michigan Reconnect - OCC, in partnership with the  Michigan Reconnect  program, is offering free in-district tuition to qualifying Michigan residents at least 21 years of age who want to earn an associate degree or certificate. Visit  https://www.oaklandcc.edu/mireconnect.  
  • Community College Guarantee- Beginning Fall 2024, students from the high school class of 2023 and beyond may be eligible for the Community College Guarantee, which includes free in-district at OCC and other Michigan community colleges. To qualify, students must complete the FAFSA form and list “Oakland Community College” as the “first college of choice” on the form.

OCC offers one of the lowest in-district tuition rates in Michigan and offers a variety of one-time grants, government financial aid programs, and many free scholarships.

Getting Started at OCC Virtual Events 

OCC’s Admissions department is hosting one-hour Getting Started at OCC virtual events twice weekly every Tuesday and Thursday and will provide students with information on  

  • Applying and being admitted to OCC
  • Setting up your MyOCC account and student email
  • Completing Online Orientation
  • English & Math Placement Information
  • Meeting with a counselor and scheduling classes

Stay on Track by Meeting with Counselors Before Registering for Classes  

Meeting regularly with an OCC Counselor is the best way for students to stay on track in their academic progress toward their degree or plans to transfer to a four-year institution. OCC counselors can help students develop a plan to graduate in two years by taking 30 credits per year or three years when they take 20 credits per year.
