COVID-19 Behavior Guidelines

During the COVID-19 pandemic, all OCC students, employees and visitors play an important role in keeping one another safe and healthy. By following OCC’s health and safety guidelines, we can all do our part to return to on-campus activities and enhance learning.

Expected Behaviors

All OCC students, employees and visitors are asked to do the following while on campus:

  • Wear a mask that covers your mouth and nose when indoors (if you cannot medically tolerate a mask, view exceptions here)
  • Stay home when you are sick
  • Respect social distancing and the personal space of your fellow students and OCC employees
  • Wash hands often and use hand sanitizer between washings (hand sanitizer stations are available throughout campus)
  • Clean and disinfect work areas and labs as appropriate
  • Treat everyone with respect

Keeping Each Other Safe

It takes everyone working together to keep OCC campuses safe and active. If you notice a student or guest of OCC not following the required health and safety guidelines, you have a right to speak up. Speak privately and calmly to the person and avoid shaming or disrespect.

Examples of what you can say include:

  • “Would you mind putting on a mask? It would really make me feel safer. Thank you!”
  • “I am really enjoying this conversation with you, but for both of our personal safety, could we put a little more distance between us?”
  • “I really enjoy being back in class with you and others…if you need a mask do you know they have them at Public Safety and Student Services? I can help you find them.”
  • “It looks like you might not be feeling well. I’d be happy to send you the notes from today’s class so that you can go home and rest.”

If you do not feel comfortable addressing a person who is making you feel unsafe, speak to your instructor or the Dean of Student Services on your campus.

What to do if you feel unsafe

Your safety is our priority. OCC’s Safe Page has a number of resources available to you. If you feel unsafe for any reason while on campus, please contact Public Safety or utilize the OCC Safe mobile app, available for Apple and Android devices.
