High School students invited to get a head-start on preparing for college, career success
Moving from high school to college can be difficult for many students. To help with this, Oakland Community College is offering a new summer program called “Bridges to Success.” This three-week program is designed to help students get ready for college and future careers with insights, skills and career planning.
The program is offered July 14-31 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., on OCC’s Auburn Hills campus. It is designed for students entering grades 9 to 11 this Fall. Students will participate in two courses—College Success Skills and Career Planning—for a better understanding, and the skills needed to succeed in college.
- College Success Skills: This course is designed to improve students' academic performance. Students will practice strategies for test taking, studying, note taking, memory enhancement and time management.
- Career Planning: This fun and interactive class helps students learn about themselves. They will explore their abilities, interests, skills, values, and other important aspects. Students will also learn how to make career decisions and set goals using technology for career research and job search skills.
Participants can earn up to four college credits by completing the program.
The Bridges to Success summer program cost is $554 (tuition of a four-credit course at OCC). Students interested in dual enrollment can contact their high school counselor to sponsor them or contact OCC at secondary@oaklandcc.edu.
