Classes on healthy and creative cooking and personal safety highlight OCC’s community education offerings this winter. Registration is currently open for the following classes:
OCC Culinary Continuing Ed Classes
Classes are offered on OCC’s Orchard Ridge campus in Farmington Hills, from 6-8 p.m.
- Pasta 101 for Adults - Wednesday, Feb. 5: Learn how to make a variety of handmade pastas and simple sauces such as Marinara, Alfredo and Palomino.
- Rolled Sushi - Wednesday, Feb. 12: In this beginner’s class, participants will learn to make three different types of rolled sushi: thin rolled Spicy Tuna; the inside out rolled California; and the thick rolled Futomaki.
- Champagne and Macarons - Monday, Feb. 17: In this fun and festive class, participants will get step-by-step instruction on making the perfect French macarons while sipping the Champagne that pairs with these creations.
- Cooking for a Mediterranean Diet - Thursday, March 13: In this informative class, conducted in partnership with Henry Ford Health, learn about the Mediterranean diet and how to create easy, delicious and nutritious meals using in-season produce and proteins.
- Spring Cookie Creation for Adults - Thursday, March 20: Learn baking and decorating techniques using royal icing on sugar to create special cookies for spring celebrations, weddings and showers.

Personal and Consumer Safety Classes for the Community
Classes are offered on OCC’s Auburn Hills campus, beginning at 6 p.m. and led by OCC Chief of Public Safety Richard Leonard.
- Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events - Tuesday, Feb. 18: The Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) course, designed and built on the Avoid, Deny Defend (ADD) strategy, provides strategies, guidance and a proven plan for surviving an active shooter event.
- Stop the Bleed - Tuesday, March 4: The American College of Surgeons Stop the Bleed program is a hands-on course that teaches the basic techniques to control life threatening bleeding.
