Mammography Technologist

A Mammography Technologist screens and detects breast tissue for abnormalities using radiology imaging. They are responsible for positioning the patient's breast in the unit, overseeing the scanning process, and reviewing and evaluating film and imagery. Results are typically presented for diagnostic purposes under the direction of a physician.

  • Average entry-level wage range:  up to $44 per hour

What to expect

  • Focus: The Mammography Technologist training program is designed to give incumbent healthcare workers the experience, knowledge and skills necessary to work in the field. 
  • Prerequisites: Students will need to be a registered Radiology Technologist (RT) and be CPR certified. All students will be required to complete an application, pass a background check, drug testing and complete a series of vaccinations. Individuals will be interviewed and screened prior to the start of the training.
  • Certification: Qualify to sit for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) Mammography exam and a certificate of program completion
  • Real-world experience:  Onsite clinical experience at surrounding hospitals with experienced Mammography Technicians and Radiologists completing and reviewing Mammograms, Quality Control, and Interventional Procedures
  • Employer Partners: Ascension, Corewell Health (formerly Beaumont), DMC, Henry Ford Health, McLaren, Michigan Medicine and St. Joseph Mercy.

  • Immunizations: MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tdap, Influenza, COVID-19
  • Copy of ARRT RT licensure and license number
  • Note:  The application requirements need to be completed before the training starts.
